The Dissertation of   M.Sc. Pramod Bhusal   will be held on Friday January 16, 2009 12:00 in lecture hall S4. The title of the doctoral thesis is "   Energy Efficient Electric Lighting for Buildings in Developed and Developing Countries ". The opponent in the Dissertation will be Prof Dave Irvine-Halliday.

The Dissertation of M.Sc. Liping Guo will be held on Friday November 7, 2008 in lecture hall S4. The title of the doctoral thesis is " Intelligent road lighting control systems – experiences, measurements and lighting control strategies". The opponent in the Dissertation will be Prof Lars Bylund.

The Dissertation of M.Sc. Paulo Pinho will be held on Friday September 19, 2008 in lecture hall S4. The title of the doctoral thesis is" Usage and control of solid-state lighting for plant growth". The opponents in the dissertation will be professor Paula Elomaa and Professor Uli Lemmer.

The 2008 seminar on Illuminating Engineering was held between May 19th and 21st. The title of the seminar is "LED-optiikan suunnittelu ja optiikan teollistaminen". The language of the seminar is Finnish. Guest lecturer: Prof. Folke Stenman. The programme can be downloaded here

The Dissertation of M.Sc. Meri Viikari will be held on Friday December 14, in lecture hall S1. The title of the doctoral thesis is "Analysis of performance based mesopic models and a proposal for a model for the basis of mesopic photometry". The title of the doctoral thesis is "Lighting, productivity and preferred illuminances - field studies in the industrial environment". The opponent in the Dissertation will be Dr Marc Fontoynont from ENTPE, Lyon, France.

Professor Liisa Halonen from TKK was handed over the Millenium Award 2007 for her merits in teaching of illumination engineering and starting high-quality lighting research in Finland. Millennium Distinction Award 2007: Millennium Distinction Awards for developers and researchers working in the Finnish optoelectronics sector.
Two Finnish growth companies and two university professors will receive this year’s Millennium Distinction Awards from the Millennium Technology Prize Foundation. Heikki and Ulla Mustonen of Tepcomp Oy, Harry Asonen of Corelase Oy, Prof. Liisa Halonen of HUT and Prof Markus Pessa of TUT have all been recognised for their pioneering work in optoelectronics.

Accredited testing services have been expanded to include Aerodrome and Heliport Lights and Signs. Expansions have also been made in Testing of Motor Vehicle Lamps and Retro-reflectors. See FINAS web pages for full details of the scope of testing.

The 2006 Millennium Technology Prize was awarded to Shuji Nakamura, for the development of LED light sources.

07.11.2005

The doctoral Thesis work of Pasi Orreveteläinen was examined and approved at HUT on October 28, 2005. The title of his Thesis was "Models for spectral luminous efficiency in peripheral vision at mesopic and low photopic luminance levels". The work concerning the Thesis was conducted at HUT Lighting Laboratory. The opponent in the Dissertation was Prof János Schanda from University of Veszprém, Hungary.

07.11.2005

The doctoral Thesis work of Marjukka Eloholma was examined and approved at HUT on October 21, 2005. Her Thesis, entitled "Development of visual performance based mesopic photometry", concerns vision in night-time driving conditions and the dimensioning of lighting at mesopic levels. The work concerning the Thesis was conducted at HUT Lighting Laboratory. The opponent in the Dissertation was Dr Pieter Walraven from TNO Human Factors, the Netherlands.
